Jubilee and Chester Road Gates, Regent’s Park
This 15 months project comprised total restoration of the Ironwork. After complete dismantling, leaving only the skeleton in-situ, the whole was shot-blasted, flame-cleaned or caustic stripped to bare, sound metal. Replacement parts, including 273 new motifs, fleur-de-lys, water and acanthus leaves were made, to match the original, involving numerous templates and lead try-outs.
We carefully repaired worn and split sections, re-drilled and tapped connecting pieces, as required, then applied a hot zinc flame spray and 2-pack epoxy system finish. The gates were re-assembled with over 4000 new stainless steel fixings, all water traps filled with lead or mastic, mating elements packed with red lead putty; gilding added the final touch.
